Hi, I’m Kinza.
I’m the person behind Where Scholars Begin, and like you, I once stood at the very start of this journey with far more questions than answers.
I hold a fully funded PhD, earned not through connections or a privileged head start, but by learning the process from the inside, one application, one email, and one lesson at a time. Along the way I navigated the things that stop most people before they begin: figuring out what committees really want, reaching out to professors, writing proposals, and quietly wondering whether I was good enough. I was, and so are you.
These days, my work and my curiosity live at the intersection of research and helping others find their footing in academia. But the reason I built this site is simple. I remember how it felt to search for guidance and come up short, and I don’t want anyone else to feel that alone.
